Gethsemane Baptist Church History
In the year of our Lord and Savior, Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-one, on the twenty-fifth day of February, eighteen dedicated believers in Christ met on a cold winter evening to conduct the first organizational meeting of Gethsemane Baptist Church.
God sent Pastor Maddox and Sister Bennie F. Maddox to Gethsemane on October 11, 1981. From that time to the present, Pastor Maddox has truly labored in the vineyard as our pastor, teacher, minister, leader, counselor, and friend.
On April 14, 1990, Gethsemane Baptist Church broke ground for the construction of the new sanctuary, which was completed in July 1991. We are currently involved in another refurbishing project that began in 2008.
There are several organizations currently active at Gethsemane Baptist Church. Our Sunday School and mid-week Bible studies continue to increase in number as the Lord adds to His church. Our studies are profound in teaching the Christian way of living.
As we reflect from the beginning to the present, we thank God for the many blessings He has bestowed upon the Gethsemane family. By the grace of God, and through the guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit, our Pastor has been able to lead and direct the church.
